SUMMARY:Never Idle Hands—Living in Early America
DESCRIPTION:The 1762 Akin House\, “The Little House with a Big Story to Tell\,” is the heritage site of DHPT’s annual event\, “Never Idle Hands––Living in Early America.” \n\n\n\nDHPT is hosting a two-day event\, featuring a rebel militia encampment. Built when King George III was the reigning monarch\, the Akin property represents a transition from loyalty to the Crown to the ultimate victory for economic independence. As a witness site to the Revolutionary era\, our re-enactors will interpret 18th century camp life including demonstrations of training exercises to prepare for battle against the British during the Revolution. \n\n\n\nOn Sunday\, all are cordially invited to stop by for 18th century cooking demonstrations\, a recreation of an 18th century coffee house\, woodworking using early tools\, participate in an archaeological dig\, view period artifacts and finds from the property\, enjoy children’s games\, and more. \n\n\n\nChat with Revolutionary era re-enactors and learn about the role the Akin family played during the Revolution. \n\n\n\nTour the Akin House (both days) and partake in a demonstration about chocolate-making on Sunday\, June 29. \n\n\n\nFree and Open to All! Join us to witness American history.
